40 Balls

Type Points
Alias Geiberger
Format Tournament
Number of players 4
Team or Individual play Team
  • In this game, 40 scores are needed to complete the round of 18 holes. After every hole, the members of every four-player team can decide how many scores to add in their final score before teeing off on the next hole.
  • For example, if a team scores two birdies, one par, and one bogie on the first hole, they can choose which scores to add to the final score before teeing off on the second hole. In this case, the team will definitely choose the birdies, although they can also choose par.
  • 40 balls is a game of strategy because you don’t want to leave too many balls for the last few holes, where you might even have to select bogeys, or worse, just to reach the total of 40 balls, but you also don’t want to count too many net pars early on in the game as it can reduce the possible number of birdies that the team might score later.
