  • Hammer is a variation of Skins because a bet is placed on every hole. However, instead of playing for a set amount of money for each hole, the purse per hole doubles every time someone says “hammer”. And, like skins are carried over to the next hole in the case of a tie, that does not happen in hammer.
  • It is played in the match play format.
  • A hammer can be placed at any time, even after the players have holed out.
  • After a bet per hole is agreed upon and the round starts, any player can “hammer” the other, which doubles the bet; for example, if the original bet per hole was $2, it is doubled to $4 if player 1 says “hammer”. Now, the right to call the hammer is passed on to player 2. If player 2 also hammers player 1, then the right to call the hammer goes back to player 1 and so on.
  • Each hole is a fresh start for a hammer, meaning any team or player can hammer the other, regardless of who did it last on the previous hole.
  • Hammers can be accepted or rejected, but that has to be done immediately.
  • The player with the lowest number of shots wins the bet. If there were no hammers called during the game, the player would win the original bet: $2.
